Essex County, Virginia Will Use EViD Workstation For Voter Check-In in Upcoming Election
Matthews, N.C. (PRWEB) July 26, 2007 -- At the forefront of voter check-in technology, Decision Support's EViD Workstation will be used in elections in yet another US county; Essex County, Virginia, located on the state's Middle Peninsula. Two to four EViD's will be set up at one to two precincts on November 6, 2007, as a trial run of the product before potentially being used countywide.
The EViD Workstation is a solid, secure electronic poll book that is powered by a central voter registration database (ranging from county, city, municipality and/or state voter database). This database is used to register the voter, match them to their necessary ballot style and to generate a printed ticket to vote. EViD increases speed and accuracy and offers a more consistent check-in process across precincts.
"We are finding that more and more states and counties are looking for tools to automate and validate the accuracy of their voter check-in processes," said Winn Maddrey, Business Development VP. "Decision Support is very pleased that Essex County has decided to bring EViD technology into their elections process. We are working with the county to help them embrace this technology to facilitate the check-in and voter history update process. We are excited to show them how fast the check-in process with EViD can be on Election Day," he continued.
Decision Support has the largest deployed base of electronic poll books in the United States. Since the company wrote the initial EViD software in 2004, EViD has processed voters in 73 elections, and has already processed voters in 11 elections in 2007. With the addition of Essex County, Virginia, the company continues to expand into the national marketplace.

Post-Election Audits Can Restore Voter Confidence in Election Results, Says American Statistical Association
In light of the results of a Washington Post-ABC poll released this week, the American Statistical Association (ASA) has reiterated its position that post-election audits can play a critical role in restoring confidence in election results. An article about the poll in the Post stated that only about a third of Ohio voters had confidence that votes in their state would be counted accurately. ASA says post-election audits could verify election results and assure the public that vote counts are correct, and that statisticians can play a significant role in the audit process.
